Challenges
A challenge is a way that a musician can demonstrate his or her improvement on their instrument. At the beginning of the year, all students will take a placement audition that will place them in a particular section and seat in the orchestra. Throughout the school year, students my improve their placement by challenging their way through their section.
Challenges may occur at anytime during the quarter and students may only challenge the same student once per quarter. If the student wins the overall challenge, that student may continue to challenge his/her way up through the section.
Challenges are performed in the following manner:
- The student will notify both the student to be challenged and the teacher.
- Once both the challenged student and the teacher are notified, the teacher will arrange a time for the challenge to take place.
- Students will be asked to play excerpts from their orchestra music.
- If the Challenger wins the challenge he/she will advance to the next seat. The challenged students will have an opportunity to re-challenge within that quarter.
- If the Challenger does not win the challenge then the seating will remain the same for that quarter.
The director reserves the right to adjust seating at anytime throughout the year as needed. Students are expected to maintain a high level of performance and consistent attendance in ALL orchestra classes. |
